You'll find this small hamlet just north of Moreton-in-Marsh, positioned on the west side of the Fosse Way, where Roman history runs deep through the landscape.

During the 1st and 2nd centuries, Dorn was home to one of the most significant defended small towns along this stretch of the Fosse Way between Cirencester and Lincoln. It functioned as both a strategic trading post and military checkpoint, though the evidence is subtle—you won't stumble upon dramatic ruins here, but the land itself preserves the story of what once occupied this important location.

These days Dorn is primarily agricultural and peaceful, though it transforms once a year when the Moreton-in-Marsh Agricultural Show arrives on the first Saturday of September. The event takes over part of the Roman site and brings the community together with livestock competitions, local crafts stalls, and a real flavour of how rural Cotswolds life actually works. The railway line to Worcester runs nearby and reaches its highest point between Oxford and Worcester right in this area, a nice reminder of Victorian engineering ambition if that sort of thing appeals to you.

Most people visit Dorn while they're already in Moreton-in-Marsh, just down the road, where you'll find proper shops, restaurants, and facilities. But if Roman Britain interests you or you're walking the Fosse Way, this is worth a stop to grasp what this place once meant.
