This is a peaceful spot along the Kennet and Avon Canal, a small community built around one of the waterway's busy locks.

Here, the pace of life slows right down, making it an ideal place to pause and observe. You can spend time watching narrowboats navigate through the lock gates, a timeless sight that connects you to centuries of canal history. The Kennet and Avon Canal itself was an impressive engineering feat of its time, initially built to link Bristol with London via the Thames, and its more recent restoration has brought new life to its banks.

For those who enjoy being outdoors, the flat towpath offers excellent opportunities for walking or cycling in either direction. Head east or west and you'll find yourself immersed in the gentle countryside, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a longer adventure. It's a lovely place to enjoy the waterside atmosphere and perhaps spot some local wildlife. While it's a small place, it's well-situated for exploring the wider area. Larger towns like Chippenham are a short drive away to the south, offering more facilities, or you could head north towards the historic market town of Malmesbury. It makes for a tranquil stop whether you're on the water or exploring the paths beside it.
