China City is a Chinese restaurant in Selsley, a village just outside Stroud, serving the kind of food that keeps locals coming back regularly.
You'll find all the classics on the menu — nothing that pushes boundaries, but everything cooked with care and consistency. It's a comfortable place to settle in without any pretension, which makes it particularly useful after you've been out exploring the area.
Selsley itself is worth the short drive from Stroud in its own right. Selsley Common sits nearby and offers genuinely impressive views across the Five Valleys — the sort of expansive landscape that explains why the Cotswolds draws so many weekend walkers. It's an excellent walk with proper dramatic terrain, and stopping in for food and a drink afterwards feels like a natural way to end the day.
The village location also works well if you're moving between other towns in the area. Both Nailsworth and Dursley are easy to reach from here, so this restaurant fits neatly into a route through Gloucestershire if you want somewhere reliable to eat. It's more practical than special, but that's often exactly what you need when you're travelling. You get straightforward, honest cooking in a relaxed setting, which is sometimes the best kind of stop.
