Faringdon, a short drive away, is a market town with independent shops and cafes. The Folly Tower there gives you impressive views across the landscape. Heading west takes you to Lechlade-on-Thames, where the River Thames begins and you can hire boats to enjoy the riverside.

For larger excursions, Cirencester—often called the Capital of the Cotswolds—is easily accessible with its museums, shops, and substantial Roman heritage. Oxford with its colleges and museums is also within comfortable driving distance if you want something more substantial.
