Birtsmorton is a small, quiet place, and that is rather the point of it. Within about two miles you'll find only a handful of destinations — three places to visit, three to eat and drink, two useful services and one activity — which means a day here is less about ticking things off and more about choosing a couple of them and taking your time. It suits visitors who like lanes rather than car parks, and who don't mind driving or walking a little between one stop and the next. If you're passing through on a longer journey between Worcester and Gloucester, it makes a sensible place to slow down for a few hours rather than a full weekend base.

A good few hours might start with Birtsmorton Court, the best known of the local buildings, before you pick up a stretch of the Three Choirs Way, the long-distance route that links Worcester and Gloucester and passes close by. Walk out as far as suits you, then turn back for lunch at the Duke of York or The Farmers Arms. If you have longer, Hardwick Court is also within reach.
