The Three Choirs Way is a long-distance walking route that connects two cathedral cities, Worcester and Gloucester, taking its name from one of the world's oldest classical music festivals, which has historically alternated between these three locations.
The walk stretches across rolling farmland in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, with particularly fine westward views towards the Malvern Hills throughout your journey.
Along the route you'll pass through several small villages that give real character to the walk, each revealing something of rural life in this part of the Cotswolds. One significant stop is Birtsmorton, home to Birtsmorton Court, an impressive medieval moated manor house that stands as a reminder of centuries past. The terrain varies pleasantly between open fields, country lanes, and patches of woodland, making it an accessible walk that doesn't demand a high level of fitness.
The route is well-suited to those wanting to explore the countryside at a steady, comfortable pace without feeling rushed. Both Worcester and Gloucester are easily accessible by public transport and car, and both cities offer plenty of shops, restaurants, and accommodation options if you want to spend time before or after your walk. You can start from either end depending on which city you're closer to, and many people choose to tackle the route over several days rather than in one go.
