Woodchester Valley Vineyard opened in the early 2010s just outside Nailsworth and has become one of the Cotswolds' success stories in English winemaking.

The vineyard operates as a working business where you can actually see how things are done rather than just buying a bottle elsewhere.

Visits typically start with a guided walk through the vineyards themselves. The team explain how they manage the vines in the local climate and why their different grape varieties thrive here. You'll learn about the specific challenges and advantages of producing wine in this part of the world. Afterwards you move into tastings where you can try their still and sparkling wines, many of which have won awards. The staff genuinely enjoy talking through their production methods and don't make it feel exclusive or intimidating whether you're interested in wine already or just wondering what all this English viticulture is about.

What makes the experience work is the informal atmosphere and the fact that people actually have time to answer your questions properly. There's nothing stuffy about it. You'll find the team are enthusiastic and welcoming.

Nailsworth sits right on your doorstep with good independent shops and cafes to explore afterwards. If you want larger facilities and better transport options, Stroud is just north of here and worth the short drive.
