A Golden Watery Grave A fallen tree lies in the water of Parkmill Pond in Woodchester Park. The reflected autumn colours of larch trees illuminated by the sun gives the impression that the pond is alight. (No image manipulation has been applied to this picture)

Woodchester Valley Vineyard sits in the valley near Inchbrook, where you can watch English winemaking happen right in front of you.

Founded in 2007, it's developed into a proper operation that produces award-winning sparkling and still wines, drawing on both technical expertise and what the local land has to offer. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or just curious about the process, there's plenty here to engage with. The guided tours take you through the vineyard itself and into the working winery, showing you each stage of production. Most tours wrap up with a tasting session where you can sample their wines and get a sense of what makes each one worth noticing. There's also a shop where you can buy bottles if something catches your fancy. The whole thing stays informative without becoming pretentious, and the setting among the rolling Cotswold hills means you can easily spend a relaxed afternoon here. Location-wise it works really well—it's straightforward to get to and sits nicely between Stroud, a lively market town just a short drive away, and Nailsworth, which has its own appeal and plenty of good places to eat. You could comfortably pair a morning at the vineyard with exploring either town.
