A wealthy Victorian enthusiast called Robert Holford created it in the 1850s, driven by genuine passion for gathering exotic plants from around the world. What started as one man's ambitious project has become a destination that appeals equally to dedicated plant experts and people who simply enjoy a walk among beautiful surroundings.
