Througham

This small settlement sits in the rolling countryside east of Stroud, part of the historic Bisley-with-Lypiatt civil parish.

Througham is essentially a collection of cottages and farms scattered across the landscape rather than a defined village center, giving it a genuinely rural character that feels removed from the busier parts of the Cotswolds.

The area has deep historical roots. It was once part of Bisley's extensive manor lands, which in medieval times stretched across a significant portion of this corner of Gloucestershire. You won't see grand structures announcing that past today, but the landscape speaks volumes—old stone buildings, dry stone walls, and field patterns that reflect centuries of agricultural use all tell the story clearly enough.

For visitors, walking is really what brings people here. The hamlet sits within excellent countryside for rambling, with footpaths connecting through to nearby Bisley itself and onwards to Stroud. It's the sort of place where you'll encounter more sheep than people, which some find wonderfully peaceful and others might find a bit too quiet.

If you're staying nearby or exploring the wider area, Througham works better as a walking route than a destination in itself. Stroud, just a few miles west, offers everything practical you might need—cafes, pubs, shops—while Througham provides the authentic rural experience without any of the crowds.
