The South Side Of The House functions as Witney's visitor information centre, positioned in the heart of the town where you can collect maps and leaflets or speak directly with staff who know the area inside out.
They're particularly knowledgeable about local walks along the River Windrush, can point you toward decent restaurants and pubs, and will fill you in on what events and attractions are running during your visit to help you plan your days.
Witney itself is a proper working market town with real substance to it. The local economy and character were shaped for centuries by wool and blanket manufacturing, and you can still see the legacy of that industrial heritage woven through the landscape and buildings. The town centre rewards a wander, with the historic market square, independent shops, and St Mary's Church all worth your time.
The location makes Witney an excellent base for exploring the wider Cotswolds. Burford is nearby, and Blenheim Palace near Woodstock is only a short drive away, so you can organise day trips without the bother of moving accommodation. The staff at the centre can advise you on the best routes to take and help you prioritise depending on how many days you're staying in the area.
