Devizes itself rewards a proper look around. The town has genuine historical character, much of it visible in the Georgian and Victorian buildings that line the streets, and the Kennet and Avon Canal runs right through the centre. The famous flight of locks at Caen Hill sits just outside town and makes for a good walk if you want to see something genuinely striking. Spending an afternoon browsing between the various boutiques here, including Spirit, gives you a real feel for how the town operates. The historic market place is worth spending time in too—there's usually something happening there. You could easily fill half a day just wandering the streets and popping in and out of shops. If you're keen to explore further, Marlborough is nearby, Avebury with its ancient stone circles is accessible, and Salisbury Cathedral is all within easy reach.
