Rowde is a working village in Wiltshire, just a few miles north of Devizes, where you'll encounter genuine village life rather than anything staged for visitors.

It sits in the valleys between the Cotswolds proper and the surrounding countryside, making it a solid base for exploring the wider area on foot or by car.

The village spreads along a main street with a genuine mix of homes, a church, and a few local amenities. St Matthew's Church rewards a visit if medieval architecture appeals to you, and the churchyard is pleasant for a wander. The High Street has character, with older buildings standing alongside more recent structures, and you'll find working farm shops where locals actually do their shopping.

What really makes Rowde worth a stop is the walking potential. You're positioned well for exploring the Kennet and Avon Canal, which runs nearby and offers easy towpath walks. The surrounding farmland and chalk downland provide solid hiking routes, and you're close enough to Devizes that visiting its famous Caen Hill locks or exploring the town's museums and markets feels natural rather than a side trip.

This is the kind of place to experience how the Cotswolds region actually functions day to day, away from the main tourist routes. Bring comfortable shoes and be prepared to do some walking to properly appreciate what's around you.
