Stephanie's Café in Rowde is a straightforward spot to grab a drink and something to eat while you're out exploring this part of Wiltshire.
The café serves hot and cold drinks, cakes, and light bites – the kind of place that hits the spot whether you're after a morning coffee or an afternoon break.
Rowde itself is a genuine working village rather than a polished tourist destination, positioned handily between the Cotswolds proper and the historic market town of Devizes. If you're walking the Kennet and Avon Canal – particularly around the Caen Hill Locks with their remarkable engineering – this is a natural place to pause and refuel. Though Rowde technically sits just outside the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty boundary, it has the same character and feel as the region, and there's something refreshing about stopping somewhere that prioritises locals over visitors.
The café is useful if you're doing a longer loop through the area, breaking up a day's exploration with a proper rest. You get a genuine sense of how village life actually functions here, away from the postcard-perfect main attractions. It's comfortable and unpretentious – exactly what you need when you're out walking and need somewhere to sit down for a bit.
