The streets repay a slow exploration if you're after something particular or simply want to absorb the feel of the place. The Chipping Steps give a real sense of how the town evolved across the centuries, and the 17th-century Market House still anchors the town center.
Your position here is excellent for venturing into the wider South Cotswolds. Westonbirt Arboretum is just a short drive away, with impressive trees and walking routes that look good in any season. You're also well-placed for Highgrove Gardens, the private residence of King Charles III, though visits require advance booking. Both Cirencester, with its Roman heritage, and medieval Malmesbury are comfortable day trips from here.
