Pike's Corner sits just outside Ashton Keynes as part of the larger Cotswold Water Park, offering a genuinely peaceful place to spend time outdoors.
The reserve centres on a network of lakes created from old gravel workings that have been allowed to recover and flourish over the years. What were once industrial sites have transformed into thriving habitats, and walking the well-kept paths here gives you a real sense of how landscape can be restored and repurposed.
The water and reeds draw plenty of birds, making this a good spot for birdwatching if you're patient and quiet. Even without binoculars you'll spot various species throughout the day, and the overall atmosphere encourages you to slow down and simply observe. The paths themselves are easy to walk and suitable for most abilities, whether you're after a short circuit or a longer exploration.
Ashton Keynes village is just nearby and worth a wander for its own interest, including the baby River Thames running through it. For food or supplies, Cirencester lies a short drive north, or you could try South Cerney if you prefer something closer. This is the kind of place that works well as a peaceful morning or afternoon break, particularly if you want to escape the busier parts of the Cotswolds without venturing far.
