Corsham is just minutes away—a working market town with a handsome High Street, independent shops worth browsing, and Corsham Court sitting just outside the centre, complete with peacocks wandering the grounds. Lacock village is a short drive further, a National Trust-owned settlement built around its medieval Abbey. The village has become well-known as a filming location, which has helped preserve its character rather than let it change over time. For larger supermarkets and more extensive facilities, Chippenham is nearby.

Bath makes an excellent day trip from here, close enough to visit without feeling rushed. The Georgian architecture and Roman remains offer plenty to explore, and the food scene is genuinely strong. The immediate area around Gastard itself gives you good walking and cycling through rolling farmland—gentle terrain that rewards a morning's exploration without demanding serious fitness.

This works well as a base if you value flexibility and want to make your own discoveries rather than follow a set itinerary. The park gives you somewhere comfortable to return to while keeping you within easy reach of everything the southern Cotswolds has to offer.
