This circular route takes you through the Pewsey Vale, offering a different kind of walking experience from what you'll find in the Cotswold stone villages further north.

Starting from the village of Oare, the path leads you across classic Wiltshire chalk downland, where gentle, rolling hills and wide open skies dominate the landscape. The views across the vale are expansive and often reveal the iconic white horses carved into the hillsides – a distinctive and ancient element of local heritage. You'll spot the Pewsey White Horse itself, a striking landmark added to the landscape in the early 20th century, while some of the other horses in the area date back much further into history.

The walk immerses you in the natural beauty of the countryside, with plenty of opportunities to see local wildlife and experience genuine tranquility. Parts of the route run near the historic Kennet and Avon Canal, which adds another dimension to the journey. Oare serves as a pleasant base for the walk, and Marlborough, a historic market town, sits just a short drive away with a good range of amenities and places to eat. The village of Pewsey is also nearby, convenient for picking up supplies before or after your walk.
