Meysey Hampton sits in the southern reaches of the Cotswolds, roughly halfway between Gloucester and Swindon.
What makes it worth a visit is that it remains a genuine working village rather than a place that's been reshaped entirely for tourists.
The settlement centers around its medieval church, which rewards a closer look if you're interested in that period of architecture. The church itself is genuinely worth your time to explore. Beyond that, there's a pleasant walk around the village proper, and it serves as a solid base for exploring the wider area on foot. The surrounding countryside is rolling and open, with decent paths connecting you to neighboring villages.
Meysey Hampton works best as part of a larger loop through this corner of Gloucestershire rather than as a destination in itself. Fairford and Lechlade are only a few miles away and have far more in the way of shops, restaurants, and amenities. Lechlade particularly deserves a visit—it sits on the Thames and gives you a real sense of being at the edge of the river landscape.
This is the sort of place to stay if you want somewhere genuinely quiet to base yourself while exploring the Cotswolds, and you're content that the village itself doesn't offer much in the way of activity. The pubs and local spots that are here tend to be friendly and genuinely welcoming to visitors passing through.
