This tiny hamlet sits within the parish of Bampton, about four and a half miles southwest of Witney in West Oxfordshire.

Walking through Lew means following quiet lanes lined with stone walls, with countryside opening out on either side. You'll find traditional cottages scattered throughout and working farmland, the kind of place that gives you a genuine sense of how rural Cotswold life actually moves at a different pace.

While Lew itself is small, being part of Bampton's parish means you have access to more substantial facilities and attractions nearby. Bampton is definitely worth exploring and has character that goes well beyond what you might initially expect. St Mary's Church there has Saxon origins and originally functioned as a minster church, so if you're interested in architecture and local heritage, there's real depth to discover here.

Most people base themselves in Witney, the nearest proper town, which offers good amenities, restaurants, and accommodation. From there, Lew and the surrounding hamlets become excellent walking country. This is genuinely the kind of area you visit to clear your head, take in the landscape, and encounter actual village life rather than the well-worn tourist circuit. It's ideal if you want to experience the quieter side of the Cotswolds without sacrificing easy access to decent facilities.
