This three-hectare nature reserve south of Sibford Ferris in south Oxfordshire is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust and genuinely rewards a dedicated visit if wildlife interests you.

The reserve centres on an artificial pool surrounded by marshland and grassland, creating separate habitats that support a real variety of creatures.

The pool itself comes alive at dusk and dawn when several bat species hunt across the water—you'll find pipistrelle, Daubenton's, and noctule bats here. Spring and early summer bring breeding birds to the island in the middle, with coots and tufted ducks returning regularly. The marshy sections grow reed sweet-grass and common reedmace, which give food and shelter to numerous species.

This is somewhere to visit with purpose rather than a major destination stop. There's no visitor centre or facilities, so go prepared—bring binoculars and a field guide if you're planning to do serious bird or bat spotting, and expect muddy paths particularly after rain. Early morning or evening visits give you the best chance of seeing wildlife when things are most active.

Sibford Ferris itself is a small village, which makes it a good base for exploring the wider Cotswolds. Banbury sits about ten miles north, so you can easily combine a visit here with other local attractions.
