This small hamlet sits on the edge of the Cotswolds in Oxfordshire, where the landscape transitions into the upper Thames Valley.

It's easy to drive straight through without stopping, but you'll be missing something genuinely worth your time if you do.

The main reason to visit is the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, a medieval building that's far more impressive than its rural setting might suggest. The interior contains 13th-century wall paintings, a rare medieval font, and windows that showcase centuries of different craftsmanship. William Morris, the Arts and Crafts movement pioneer, was involved in restoring the church during the 1880s, and you can still see the quality of that restoration work throughout the building.

The surrounding landscape has a quiet appeal—rolling fields and country lanes with the particular quality of light characteristic of the Thames Valley. It's genuinely peaceful for walking, and the hamlet itself has maintained an authentic rural character without feeling artificially maintained or touristy.

One thing to know is that Inglesham is quite remote, though that's very much part of why it feels special. Lechlade is the nearest town, a few miles south, where you'll find shops, services, and the Thames itself. It makes sense to visit Inglesham as part of a broader exploration of the area—the Cotswold Water Park with its extensive lake network is close by, and several larger villages are within easy reach.
