This nature trail just outside Oxford near Cumnor gives you the chance to get some proper exercise while taking in views that really stay with you.
The landscape shifts between open grassland and wooded stretches, so there's enough variety to keep things interesting as you walk. You'll notice the Hinksey Heights Golf Course alongside the paths, which creates an unusual but pleasing setting without feeling too manicured or out of place.
The real highlight is the vista across Oxford itself. On a clear day, the view of the university city sprawling below is genuinely impressive and gives you a completely different way of seeing the place compared to wandering its medieval streets. It's the kind of perspective that makes you appreciate the city's scale and setting.
The walk itself is manageable with some gentle slopes, so you can make it as easy or as demanding as you fancy depending on which routes you pick. There's decent wildlife to spot if you keep your eyes open. Getting there is straightforward whether you're coming from Cumnor or heading out from Oxford itself, which makes it a practical choice if you've got an afternoon free and want to breathe some fresh air without traveling far.
