This Grade I listed manor in the countryside near Apperley carries nearly seven centuries of English history within its walls.
Built in the 14th century and expanded during the 16th and 18th centuries, Hasfield Court served as the ancestral home of the Pauncefoot family through generations. What makes it particularly striking is the moated site that still surrounds it, a genuine medieval survival that reveals how people once used water to protect and define their properties.
Since the manor is a private family home, you won't be able to explore the interiors, but the exterior is clearly visible from public footpaths crossing the nearby land, allowing you a genuine feel for the building's presence and age. The gardens do open occasionally for charity events organised through the National Garden Scheme, so if you're visiting at the right time of year it's definitely worth checking ahead to see if one is scheduled.
Apperley is a peaceful village that works well as a base for this part of the Cotswolds. From here you can easily reach Tewkesbury to the north with its abbey and riverside location, or head south towards Gloucester's cathedral and Roman sites. The quiet lanes around the area are really rewarding to explore on foot if you have time to wander.
