This small hamlet in Oxfordshire offers the kind of peaceful atmosphere that becomes harder to find as you venture into busier parts of the Cotswolds.
The name comes from its history as a ford crossing, and though the water crossing itself is less defined now, the landscape still reflects that connection to water—the River Thames lies nearby, and smaller streams flow through the area.
There's not much in the way of shops or major attractions, and that's entirely the point. What you get instead are quiet lanes perfect for walking, views across open countryside, and traditional stone buildings that have weathered centuries. It's a good place to spend an afternoon on foot or simply to sit by the water and think. The pace here genuinely does feel slower.
When you want more options, Oxford is just a short drive to the east with its museums, university colleges, and dining scene. Witney to the north has the energy of a proper market town if you need supplies or a busier atmosphere for an hour or so. Faringdon to the south is another convenient option. Most visitors treat Gozzard's Ford either as a quiet base for exploring the wider region or as a gentle interlude in a larger trip through this part of England.
