Crudwell is a small village in north Wiltshire positioned right at the Cotswolds' edge, making it useful as a base for exploring the region while staying away from the tourist heaviness of larger towns.
The village clusters around a working church and traditional stone cottages, giving you a genuine feel for what rural Cotswolds living actually involves.
The real draw here is the walking. You're surrounded by excellent countryside with footpaths branching out across farmland and into nearby woodland. The village itself remains quiet and peaceful, ideal if you want to step back from busier spots. There's a welcoming pub where you'll find locals, and you can easily pick up what you need without any fuss.
Location-wise, you're well placed. Malmesbury sits four miles southwest and merits a day visit for its striking abbey and riverside location. Cirencester, one of the Cotswolds' largest towns, is eight miles northeast with proper shops, museums and restaurant options. Kemble village nearby has a railway station offering direct trains to London and Gloucester, so getting here without a car is straightforward.
Crudwell works best as a quiet overnight base or as a starting point for countryside walks rather than as a destination you'd spend days in. It's the sort of place to appreciate if you value authentic village life and are comfortable with limited facilities.
