AV8 is a cafe at Cotswold Airport in Kemble, a few miles south of Cirencester, where you get to eat while watching planes come and go.
The airport sits on the former RAF Kemble site and remains a fully operational airfield, so there's always something happening on the runways outside.
The food is straightforward and satisfying—good breakfasts, solid lunches, sandwiches, cakes, and proper coffee—but the real draw is what you see while eating. The cafe has floor-to-ceiling windows facing directly onto the runways, so you can watch aircraft taking off and landing, monitor flight training in progress, and occasionally spot something unusual passing overhead. It's understandably become a favourite with aviation enthusiasts, though you certainly don't need to be one to appreciate the experience. There's something genuinely absorbing about the constant movement and activity, and children tend to find it thoroughly entertaining.
The place has a lively, sociable feel. You'll find pilots dropping in between flights, flight school students, and plenty of visitors simply curious about the goings-on. Parking is easy and right outside, so getting there is hassle-free. If you're staying around Cirencester or Tetbury, it's worth the short drive either as a dedicated visit or as a worthwhile stop while you're exploring the southern Cotswolds.
