Set within the rolling landscape of the Cotswolds, you'll discover a remarkable place dedicated to trees from every corner of the globe.
This is Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, a living library of specimens established in the mid-19th century by Robert Stayner Holford. You can easily spend hours wandering its extensive network of paths, exploring two distinct collections: the Old Arboretum with its grand, mature trees and the Silk Wood, which focuses more on conservation and woodland management.
As you stroll through the grounds, you'll encounter an incredible diversity of species, from towering conifers to elegant broadleaf trees, including impressive examples of Common Limes. The Treetop Walkway offers a unique perspective high among the canopy, letting you experience the woodland from an entirely different vantage point. It's a wonderful spot for a peaceful walk, a family day out, or simply to immerse yourself in nature, especially when the leaves turn vibrant in autumn. The arboretum is conveniently located just a short drive from charming Cotswolds towns like Tetbury and Malmesbury, making it an ideal stop on your exploration of the region.
