This small Gloucestershire village sits right on the A435, making it a convenient stopping point between Cheltenham and Cirencester.
The village stretches along the main road for about a kilometre, typical of many Cotswolds settlements that grew up around important trade routes.
Colesbourne itself is quietly pleasant rather than dramatic. You'll find a traditional church and a handful of local businesses, but what makes it worthwhile is that it's a genuine working community rather than somewhere built for tourism. Many people drive straight through without realizing what surrounds them, which is actually part of what makes it special. The countryside around here is excellent for walking, with the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on your doorstep and rolling fields plus stone villages in every direction.
The location is genuinely useful if you're exploring the region. Chedworth Roman Villa, one of the most impressive Roman sites in England, is just a few miles away. Withington, North Cerney, and Rendcomb are neighbouring villages worth visiting. Gloucester is about 16 kilometres west, Cheltenham around 10 kilometres north, and Cirencester 11 kilometres south, so you could base yourself here and explore all three towns comfortably.
It's the kind of place that rewards slow exploration rather than ticking boxes. Stop for a walk, grab a coffee if somewhere's open, and use it as a base for discovering the quieter corners of the Cotswolds.
