Just outside Liddington village, this car park serves as a practical base for exploring the surrounding countryside on foot.
From here you have direct access to Liddington Castle, an Iron Age hill fort that's remained impressively intact for thousands of years. Walking around the ramparts gives you a genuine sense of the people who built and defended this place, and you'll quickly understand why they chose this location once you reach the top. The views across the Wiltshire downs are genuinely expansive on clear days, stretching for miles in every direction and making the climb well worth it. The site also works well as a launch point for longer walks if you're keen to cover more ground, with routes connecting through to the Ridgeway National Trail for those who want to extend their day out. You can easily spend a couple of hours here just taking in the air and the views, or much longer if you're combining it with other walks in the area. There aren't amenities at the car park itself, but Liddington village is only a short walk away, and Swindon is close enough if you need to pick up anything more substantial before or after your visit.
