Bourton Chase

Illustration — photo coming soon

This small hamlet lies about two miles west of Moreton-in-Marsh and offers a genuine escape from the crowds that gather in the larger market towns nearby.

It's the kind of place that works as a working village first and visitor destination second, which means you'll get a real sense of how life actually happens here rather than seeing everything staged for tourism.

The focal point is St. Lawrence's Church, a Grade I listed building that carries centuries of local history in its fabric. Walking around the village, you'll spot some excellent stone cottages spanning different eras. Slatters Cottage dates from the seventeenth century, while the three-storey Horseshoe Cottage was built in the 1750s. These buildings tell you something genuine about how Cotswolds communities expanded and changed over time. The Horse and Groom pub remains a working local, the kind of place where you can get a proper sense of the village's rhythm.

If you're into walking, the location is particularly useful. The hamlet sits directly on the Heart of England Way, a long-distance footpath running south toward Bourton-on-the-Water and north toward Cannock Chase. Connected paths also link you through to the Cotswold Way via Blockley and Chipping Campden, making this a sensible base or stopping point for longer walks across the region.

You can comfortably spend an hour or two here exploring without feeling rushed or surrounded by other visitors.
