Staverton is a small place with more on its doorstep than its size suggests. Draw a circle of roughly two miles around it and you'll find fourteen places to eat and drink, seven places worth visiting, five places to stay, a couple of services, two activity providers and a single shop — the sort of spread that suits a short stop as much as a longer base. It's flat, workaday countryside on the edge of Cheltenham, and much of the appeal lies in how easily you can move between a quiet lane, a decent lunch and a bed for the night without covering much ground.
A good few hours here might begin on two wheels, following the Gloucestershire Cycle Spine at whatever pace suits you, then turning off to look at Hayden Knoll Gatehouse Lodge before stopping somewhere nearby for a long lunch. If you're staying over, Hope Orchard B&B and Holmedale give you something small-scale and local, while the Ramada by Wyndham Cheltenham is the more straightforward option for a late arrival. With a whole day, Historic Cheltenham is close enough to fold into the same trip.
