If you're based in Swindon while exploring the southern and eastern Cotswolds, Yak The Himalayan Kitchen offers a genuine departure from the traditional English cooking that dominates the region.
The restaurant specializes in Nepalese and Tibetan cuisine, with dishes prepared using traditional spices and techniques rooted in mountain cooking traditions.
You'll find hearty curries, fragrant rice dishes, and momos – steamed dumplings with various fillings that form a cornerstone of Himalayan food culture. The flavors work well after a day of walking around the Cotswolds, thanks to warming spices, fresh herbs, and satisfying textures that feel genuinely comforting. The staff creates a welcoming atmosphere that makes it an easy place to settle in for the evening.
Swindon works well as a base for exploring the Cotswolds, particularly if you're focusing on the southern and eastern sections. Having access to this kind of dining option means you can try something genuinely different without needing to travel far from your accommodation. Whether you're stopping by for a night or two or using Swindon as your main base, it's worth a visit if you want a break from the food you'll encounter in the villages themselves.
