This small hamlet sits on the southwestern fringe of the Cotswolds, close enough to Corsham town for a short walk or drive but far enough out to feel genuinely rural.

Westrop is the kind of place you might pass through while exploring the wider area rather than visit with a specific destination in mind, but that works in its favour—it gives you an honest sense of how the landscape actually functions beyond the more polished market towns nearby.

Corsham itself, just four miles away, makes an excellent base. It's a substantial town with real character, built on wool wealth and later Bath Stone quarrying, and you'll see that stone in its honey-coloured buildings. Corsham Court, the grand house at the town's heart, opens to visitors and contains an impressive art collection. The town has good restaurants, pubs, and shops without feeling over-touristed.

The area works well for gentle exploration on foot or bike. You're positioned conveniently between Bath to the southwest and Chippenham to the northeast, with Swindon further north if you're heading that direction. The A4 runs nearby, making access straightforward. This corner of Wiltshire has less of the dramatic Cotswolds scenery you might find elsewhere, but it rewards wandering with stone villages, working farmland, and a real sense of how the region actually functions day to day rather than how it's presented to visitors.
