This small hamlet sits in the valley between Cheltenham and Gloucester, running alongside the River Severn.
It's essentially a collection of cottages and farmland, which is exactly why it appeals to visitors looking for genuine quiet rather than the crowded charm of somewhere like Bourton-on-the-Water or Bibury.
The real reason to come here is the landscape and what it offers for getting outdoors. Watermead lies on National Cycle Route 4, the long-distance path connecting London to Wales, so it works well as a stop if you're cycling through the region. The riverside location opens up pleasant walking routes along the water, and the surrounding countryside is excellent for longer rambles if you want to leave the tourist focus behind.
Don't expect attractions within Watermead itself, but that's rather the appeal. This is working agricultural landscape, and you're really here to experience the rural Cotswolds as it actually functions. Gloucester nearby has more shops, restaurants, and cultural things to do, and Cheltenham is just a short drive away for anything else you might need.
This is a place for people after fresh air and exercise more than museums or tearooms. If you're planning a cycling journey or want a thoughtful countryside walk away from the village circuits, Watermead offers a genuine alternative to the more established tourist stops.
