Warmington is a small working village in the Stratford-on-Avon district, located at the foot of the Edge Hill escarpment in southern Warwickshire.
What makes it different from many other villages in the area is that it genuinely functions as a community rather than existing primarily as a tourist destination, which means it retains an authentic character despite its convenient proximity to larger towns.
The main draw for visitors is the historical significance of the landscape around you. Edge Hill was the site of the first major battle of the English Civil War in 1642, and walking the village and escarpment gives you a real sense of the terrain where those events took place. Various vantage points around Warmington and up the escarpment offer good views across the surrounding countryside while you're thinking about the historical context.
The village itself provides some pleasant walking routes, and its location works well as a base for exploring the broader Edge Hill area on foot. If you're interested in period architecture, Arlescote House, a Jacobean building, sits just two miles away in the nearby village of Arlescote and is worth a detour.
Banbury lies about eight miles away and has the usual shops and services you might need. Stratford-upon-Avon is roughly twelve miles south if you're planning to combine this visit with other stops in the Cotswolds. Many people find the genuinely lived-in quality of Warmington refreshing compared to villages that cater more explicitly to visitors.
