This small village sits within the GL postcode area of south-west England, a region covering most of Gloucestershire and stretching into neighbouring counties.
The GL postcode system comprises 27 districts spread across 28 post towns, serving a vast area that includes well-known towns like Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud and Cirencester alongside smaller settlements throughout the region.
The postcode districts run sequentially from GL1 to GL20, then jump to GL50 through GL56 for Cheltenham and its surrounding areas. What makes this postal region particularly interesting is its geographical reach. Beyond Gloucestershire's borders, the GL postcodes extend into parts of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. The GL16 district even crosses into Wales, covering a small portion of Monmouthshire.
One notable quirk of the system is found in GL17, which covers an upper section of the Forest of Dean. This district holds the distinction of having more alternative post towns than any other single postcode district in England. Five recognised post towns operate within this one area, serving the isolated larger villages scattered throughout the forested landscape.
Understanding the GL postcode structure helps visitors navigate this diverse corner of England, whether exploring the major centres or seeking out the quieter villages and rural communities that give the region its character.
