This Travelodge sits on the edge of Melksham, a working market town that serves as a genuinely useful base for exploring the southern Cotswolds and Wiltshire beyond.
The hotel is straightforward and practical, located in Berryfield, and gives you easy access to both the town itself and the wider region without the hassle of navigating through heavy tourist traffic.
Melksham itself has plenty of character to discover. The historic centre is pleasant to walk around, the medieval parish church deserves a visit, and the Avon runs through town with some lovely riverside walks if you want to stretch your legs. You'll find all the amenities you need to pick up supplies or eat out.
The real strength of staying here is how well you're positioned for day trips. Lacock is just a few minutes away — a National Trust village that's genuinely beautiful with its abbey and traditional stone cottages, and you'll probably recognize it from various films and television shows. Bath is an easy drive and absolutely worth visiting for its Roman and Georgian architecture and famous baths. Bradford-on-Avon, even closer, has independent shops, canalside walks, and plenty of historic interest. Even Castle Combe, with its remarkable countryside setting, is within comfortable reach. This location works brilliantly if you want to experience proper Cotswold landscapes and significant historical sites while maintaining a quieter, more manageable base.
