In the south of the Cotswolds sits a market town that's developed quite a reputation among antique enthusiasts.
The shops here are genuinely worth spending time in, packed with furniture, collectibles, and curiosities that attract serious collectors and casual browsers alike. The town centre revolves around a striking 17th-century Market House that still dominates the streetscape after centuries.
The characteristic honey-coloured stone buildings create the familiar Cotswold atmosphere, with many dating back generations. Beyond what's architecturally pleasing, you'll find a solid collection of independent retailers and restaurants, making it easy to spend an afternoon exploring and eating well. Just outside town is Highgrove Gardens, the private residence of King Charles III. You'll need to book well in advance if you want to visit, but it's a significant draw for the area.
The town's historical wealth came from the wool trade, like so many places around here, and it's retained that market town character while becoming increasingly upmarket in its retail offering. It works perfectly as a base for exploring the surrounding countryside, or you can easily reach Cirencester with its strong Roman history, or head towards Malmesbury with its impressive abbey down the road.
