This walking route takes you through the Vale of White Horse, which offers a distinctly different landscape from the typical Cotswolds terrain you might expect.
Rather than steep hills, you'll find yourself on generally flat paths that wind through open fields and working farmland, creating a more gentle walking experience. The route centers around Charney Bassett, a small village that retains a strong sense of its past. As you walk, look out for the older buildings scattered through the village, including the ancient manor house and church, which tell the story of centuries of settlement here.
The walk itself is peaceful, letting you take in wide-ranging views across the agricultural valley without the constant climbing you'd encounter in hillier parts of the region. The paths are well-maintained overall, though sturdy shoes are worth wearing, particularly if the ground is wet. This makes it an excellent option whether you're after a short, easy stroll or a longer ramble at a leisurely pace.
When you need refreshment, Charney Bassett has a pub where you can grab a drink or food. If you're basing yourself somewhere with more facilities, Wantage and Faringdon are nearby towns that offer additional shops, restaurants, and services for exploring this corner of the Vale.
