The Old Warehouse

in Nailsworth

The Old Warehouse is located in Stroud, a town at the centre of the Five Valleys in Gloucestershire that feels quite different from the rest of the Cotswolds.

This is somewhere that values genuine community spirit and alternative culture above superficial polish. You'll find organic food shops, independently run businesses, and a strong ethos of sustainability running through everything the town does.

Stroud's character is inseparable from its textile history. The streams flowing through these valleys once powered mills that made the area a significant cloth production hub, and you can still see traces of that industrial past woven into the townscape. Today, independent cafes and businesses occupy many of these historic spaces, creating an energetic atmosphere that genuinely reflects what people who live here care about.

The Five Valleys landscape itself is excellent for walking and cycling, with rolling hills and wooded valleys offering plenty to explore. The nearby Slad Valley provided inspiration for Laurie Lee's memoir Cider with Rosie, which connects the area to some interesting literary history.

The Old Warehouse itself functions as a useful stop, particularly if you're driving an electric vehicle, as it has EV charging facilities. The town makes a solid base for exploring this part of the Cotswolds, with good transport links to Cheltenham and Gloucester when you need them.
