You'll find this nature reserve just outside Thatcham, near Newbury, run by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.

Muddy Lane, RG19 3FU

It's an excellent spot if you want to spend time observing wildlife in a genuinely peaceful setting. The reserve has a good network of walking trails that take you through different habitats—tranquil lakes, dense reedbeds, open meadows, and woodland—so you can easily spend several hours exploring at your own pace. Birdwatchers will be particularly pleased here. You might see kingfishers cutting across the water, or hear warblers calling from the reeds. There are observation hides positioned around the site for quieter watching if you want to settle in one spot. The on-site gift shop stocks nature-themed books, local wildlife guides, and small gifts that work well as reminders of your visit or as something a bit different to take home. You can usually get refreshments there too. Whether you're looking for a gentle walk or hoping to spot some less common birds, it works well for visitors of all ages and interests. When you arrive, check the information board to see if there are any guided walks or special events happening during your visit.
