Greenham is a village in West Berkshire, sitting just outside Newbury, which puts it in a good position for exploring the broader area while keeping its own character.

With around six thousand residents, it's large enough to have proper shops and services, yet it genuinely feels like a working community rather than just an overgrown suburb.

The village carries significant modern history as the former home of RAF Greenham Common, which was a crucial Cold War airbase. Much of that former military land is now open to the public, and Greenham Common itself provides considerable space for walking and getting out into the Berkshire countryside.

For visitors, Greenham gives you access to Newbury's shops and restaurants while maintaining a more residential atmosphere. It works well as a base for exploring the North Wessex Downs and suits anyone drawn to both village life and the convenience of larger facilities nearby. The area is particularly good if you're interested in walking or want to experience day-to-day Cotswolds-adjacent living, rather than heading further west to the villages that draw bigger crowds of visitors.
