Swindon works well as a base for exploring the wider region. It's a proper town rather a village, so it has better transport links and facilities than you'd find deeper in the Cotswolds. From here, Cirencester is just a short drive south, and you can easily reach the rolling countryside and market towns that define the area. If you want to combine some gallery time with exploring the traditional Cotswold landscape, Swindon gives you a solid starting point. The Artists Forum is worth an hour or two if you're interested in what local artists are working on right now and fancy something a bit different from the historical attractions you'll find elsewhere in the region.
