Out in the eastern Cotswolds, this village pub has become known for something beyond the usual pub fare.
People make the journey here deliberately, attracted by a kitchen that takes seasonal cooking seriously and builds its menus around what grows locally in the surrounding area. The space itself manages to feel both genuinely hospitable and carefully considered, with fireside seating in winter and garden space when the weather cooperates.
The real draw is the food. Rather than taking shortcuts, the kitchen works with fresh produce that shifts through the seasons, resulting in dishes that genuinely taste of the Cotswolds countryside. You can certainly stop by for a quiet drink, but it's the cooking that gives this place its reputation—honest country food that shows what the region does well.
The building itself is an old inn that's been part of village life for generations, and it's evolved into something with real substance while keeping that fundamental friendliness intact. Once you've eaten, the village of Southrop around you repays a slower wander.
Location-wise, you're just a short drive from Lechlade-on-Thames, with Fairford also within reach. If you're exploring this eastern section of the region, it's certainly worth stopping by.
