Stonebridge Meadow Nature Reserve is a working nature reserve on the edge of Marlborough town centre, just a short walk from the High Street.

Rather than feeling cut off from town life, it offers something different – a genuinely wild space that's been carefully managed across generations to support local wildlife and plants. You'll find a real diversity of species here that you simply don't encounter in more controlled green spaces.

The paths through the meadow are quiet and contemplative. You won't find dramatic vistas, but rather the opportunity to pay attention to what's actually growing and living around you. Spring and summer are the best times to visit, when wildflowers bring in bees and butterflies in impressive numbers. If you're interested in birds, a little patience and quiet observation usually rewards you with sightings.

The reserve works equally well as a brief escape if you've spent time shopping on Marlborough's High Street and need some fresh air, or as somewhere to spend an hour or two if you want to slow down properly. What makes it special is the sense that the wildlife thriving in these grasslands does so because people have actively chosen to let nature flourish here. It's a reminder of what's possible when you step back and give space to the wild.
