If you're interested in cycling but prefer to avoid steep climbs, the South Swindon cycling route gives you a gentler alternative to the more demanding terrain you'll find further west in the Cotswolds.
Based in and around Swindon itself, this route takes you through the southern parts of the town on largely flat paths, making it ideal for a relaxed ride or a family outing.
Swindon has a fascinating industrial heritage, particularly from its days as home to the Great Western Railway works, and you'll spot traces of that history as you ride. Alongside the remnants of the past, you'll find modern green spaces and local facilities dotted throughout, so there are plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments or grab supplies. While Swindon isn't a traditional Cotswold settlement, its position makes it a practical base for exploring the countryside that rolls away to the west, or for venturing to nearby towns like Marlborough. The route itself offers an easy way to see what the town and its immediate surroundings have to offer from the seat of a bike.
