This nature reserve occupies the site of former gravel pits that have been carefully restored into a haven for wildlife.

The reserve features open water, reedbeds, and grassland linked by well-kept paths, creating an excellent spot for a leisurely walk and quiet observation. Birdwatchers find plenty to keep them occupied—the different habitats draw waterfowl on the lakes, seasonal waders, and various smaller birds sheltering among the reeds and bushes. Summer brings dragonflies, and wildflowers colour the grassland during the warmer months. There's a real sense of calm here, quite striking when you consider the industrial heritage of the site. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring the pathways and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere, though bringing binoculars will help you make the most of what's around you. Witney is nearby as a substantial market town with good shopping and dining options if you want to combine your visit with other activities, while the village of South Leigh is practically on your doorstep for those keen to explore the wider area.
