Rasmachaz is a small boutique hotel in the village of Selsley, making it an excellent base for exploring the Cotswolds' quieter side.
The village itself centres around Selsley Common, a large open expanse of grassland offering sweeping views across the Stroud valleys. You'll find public footpaths starting almost literally at the hotel's edge, ranging from gentle countryside strolls to more demanding hikes through the surrounding landscape.
The building's own history hasn't been extensively documented, but the area around it tells a rich story of industrial heritage, shaped particularly by the wool and cloth-making trades that once dominated these valleys. Stroud, just a short drive away, preserves much of this legacy and rewards a visit for its award-winning farmers' market, independent shops with real character, and thriving arts scene. Nailsworth, another nearby town brimming with cafes and galleries, is equally within easy reach.
What makes staying here appealing is the balance it offers. You get genuine countryside peace and immediate access to walking routes, yet you're close enough to venture into the region's market towns whenever you want to experience their energy and see what's happening in the local community. It's a good position if you're after Cotswolds countryside without feeling completely isolated from proper human activity and interesting independent businesses.
