Prescote is a small hamlet just north of Banbury, sitting quietly in the Oxfordshire countryside where the landscape rolls gently between water meadows and farmland.
It's the kind of place you might pass through rather than specifically visit, but that's actually part of its appeal — there's no tourist infrastructure here, just rural life as it's been lived for centuries.
The hamlet clusters around a few stone cottages and farms, with the River Cherwell winding through the southeastern boundary and Highfurlong Brook marking the western edge. These waterways have shaped settlement here for generations, providing water for livestock and mills. Walking around, you'll experience working countryside rather than a polished heritage site.
Most people exploring this area use Banbury as a base — it's only four miles south and has proper amenities, pubs, and shops. From here you can take gentle walks following the river valleys, spotting wildlife and getting a feel for the landscape that gradually becomes more distinctly Northamptonshire as you head north. It's ideal if you want to escape the busier tourist villages and experience the quieter side of Oxfordshire, where the main activity is still agriculture and where you're far more likely to encounter a farmer than another visitor.
